Hunger free colorado
CHALLENGE
In November 2022, Colorado voters passed Proposition FF: Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA), ensuring all public school students could access free, nutritious meals — but passage was just the beginning.
The next challenge was storytelling: how do you bring attention to a statewide policy in a way that feels personal, urgent, and community-driven? How do you show that this isn't just a policy win, but a movement for food justice, worker dignity, and community care? And how do you do it in a way that honors the grassroots coalition behind the campaign while attracting continued investment, support, and visibility?
IMPACT
We created a documentary-style video campaign uplifting the power and promise of Healthy School Meals for All. Filming Hunger Free Colorado members, partners, and advocates in their homes and places of work, we centered real people impacted by the policy and those who fought to make it happen.
The resulting content emphasized the community impact of the policy by uplifting small, intimate moments that revealed the larger systems at play. The videos highlighted not just access to meals, but the broader values of food sovereignty, worker dignity, and community involvement. With a focus on visual storytelling through b-roll and direct-to-camera interviews, the campaign illustrated how this policy is already transforming lives and inspired continued momentum for universal meal programs nationwide.
MY ROLE
I served as Producer, Director, Cinematographer, and Editor for the project, leading it from concept through post-production. I identified and interviewed participants based on strategic campaign goals, crafted storylines to reflect the depth of the HSMA initiative, and directed on-location shoots to capture both interviews and rich, meaningful b-roll. My approach prioritized authenticity and emotional resonance by building trust with participants to tell stories that were honest, personal, and powerful. Through careful visual and narrative choices, I helped translate a policy victory into a compelling human story with lasting impact.
